5:30 – 8:30: J Chapes Band

Acclaimed as a singer-songwriter (The New Yorker, The Boston Globe, The Sunday Times (London), NPR, People, Entertainment Weekly, Relix, Los Angeles Times, Newsday…) and trained as a historian (Master’s degrees in both Social Studies Adolescent Education and Africana Studies), Jen Chapin brings both perspectives to her treatment of the early jazz songbook. Above all, her guiding principle to this music is FUN. This playfulness is most evident in Chapin’s easy camaraderie with her esteemed bandmates in J. Chapes Jazz Band, Charlie Caranicas on trumpet, Bill Malchow on piano, Andrew Hall on bass and Ethan Eubanks on washboard/drums.
